CHAPTER OVERVIEW The first page of every chapter offers a general overview of chapter concepts.
STUDENT REVIEW Each chapter includes 3 types of quizzes to help you review and assess your understanding of key concepts.
- Review: a self-grading quiz to check your understanding of basic concepts
- Study and Review: an essay quiz offering a comprehensive review of facts and concepts
- Further Thought: an essay quiz that emphasizes concepts and connections through the application of ideas and the synthesis of your growing knowledge. This is an on-line version of the question at the end of your textbook's chapter.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES Each chapter may include one to several types of activities. In some cases, you are asked to review and evaluate current literature while in others; you are presented with a simulation of an important evolutionary principle, for which you can explore.
- Thinking About the Literature: extend your understanding of evolutionary biology by exploring current research literature
- Case Studies: explore important concepts and applications through hands-on case studies. Each case study includes a data set with instructions for analyze of the concept
