Ethanol and Methoxymethane C2H6O

Section 5.0. Constitutional isomers.

Constitutional isomers differ in the way their atoms are connected. Differences in connectivity can lead to huge differences in physical and chemical properties, as in this case, where the functional group changes. Ethanol is a liquid at room temperature, boiling at 78 ºC, and is chemically quite reactive, whereas methoxymethane is a gas at room temperature, boiling at -24 ºC, and is chemically less reactive than ethanol.
