Remedies and consumer protection
Objectives

  1. Identify and understand the different remedies provided by both common law and statute and in what situation each may be applicable.
  2. Identify and understand the legal rules which apply to remedies for misrepresentation and breach of contract respectively, and the sources of those rules.
  3. Identify and understand the respective roles of the Fair Trading Act 1986 and the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 as consumer protection statutes.
  4. Identify and understand the rights of the consumer in applying for appropriate redress in a simple fact situation.
