In his first book, titled Uncommon CallingA Gay Christians Struggle to Serve the Church, Glaser described how, as a fundamentalist Baptist and a "biblical literalist," he experienced many difficulties and challenges in the journey to accept his homosexuality. He earned his M.Div. degree from Yale University Divinity School (where he began a gay Christian support group in 1974) and since that time has established himself as a prominent writer, speaker, and activist who advocates that "sexuality is truly a gift from God." In the 1970s, he was the only openly gay member of the Presbyterian Task Force to study homosexuality. He also served as founding director of the Lazarus Projecta ministry of reconciliation between the church and the LGBT communityfrom 1977-1987, and he served as national coordinator of Presbyterians for Lesbian and Gay Concerns.
