The National Tourist Information Center site entices visitors to come see Germany. They provide maps and travel tips as well as information about what’s going on in specific cities. Click on the map to get more information about a Bundesland (state) or Stadt (city) that you’re particularly interested in. Write down two attractions that you would like to see there.
- Die Freie Universität Berlin
This page from the Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) lists the subjects offered for study at the university and the corresponding departments or institutes there. Go to this page and scan the list of Fachbereiche (departments). Is your major or minor offered at the FUB? When you find it, click on it. Which Institut would you most likely associate with? You will find a list of Studienfächer (fields of study) in the Anhang of Treffpunkt Deutsch.

Click on Die Schweizer Tourismus Site and you’ll see a colorful map of the Swiss Regionen. By clicking on the different regions, you can find out more about each area. Click on Zürich in the north and check out the photos shown to entice you to visit there. Then go back and click on another Region in the south. How are the photos of that Region different from those of Zürich? Where would you rather go right now?

This is one of the official web pages on tourism in Österreich which also provides facts on the country’s geography and population. Choose Deutsch for the language of the page, then click on Städte & Regionen and you’ll see a map of Österreich divided into its Bundesländer. How many are there all together? How many of the Bundesländer names do you recognize?

This page on Länder der Bundesrepublik Deutschland furnishes maps and basic facts about each of Germany’s Bundesländer. Note that the English name for each Bundesland does not always match the German one. Read through the names and find the English words for Bayern, Sachsen, and Hessen. According to the information on Einwohner for each Bundesland in Germany, which has the highest population and which has the lowest?

You will find all kinds of weather information on the Donnerwetter site, ranging from an up-to-date weather report to today’s Pollenflug (pollen count). Find Wetter-Ecke in the menu and click on it. Here you can visit the Wetter-Foto-Archiv or look up weather-related terms in the Wetter-Lexikon. What can you buy in the Donnerwetter-Shop? Find two items they sell there that you understand in German.
