Ansel Adams, the famous photographer of the Sierra Nevada mountains and Yosemite, embarked upon an unusual project in the early days of World War II. He photographed people and conditions in Manzanar Relocation Center in eastern California, which were published in his book, Born Free and Equal. This Library of Congress site has these photographs along with background information of the camp.
