Chapter Overview

Throughout United States history, the U.S., has almost always, been populated by immigrants and their descendants. In this chapter, Schaefer shows us how immigrants have been treated both historically and currently in the United States, under the law and in civil society. Though immigration benefits the United States in many ways, there are many negative stereotypes of immigrants (for example, the issue of illegal immigration and the aftermath of 9/11).
