Online Databases

In addition to searching the library catalog and the Internet, you need to search periodical indexes (organized, searchable collections of newspapers, magazines, and journals). Online periodical indexes are usually referred to as online databases or online subscription databases.

You may still need to consult some print indexes for research on topics that date back to the early part of the twentieth century. Check with your librarian to find out what print indexes are still important to your search.

Most libraries now have online subscription databases that take the place of older print indexes.

Content Select, which comes packaged with The Research Paper: A Guide to Library and Internet Research includes access to Pearson Education/EBSCO ContentSelect, a database simlar to EPSCOhost, which is available on many campuses. For this exercise, you will need to access EPSCOhost or Content Select.
