Browsing the Online Catalog (p. 28)

There are many places in a library to start searching for a good topic. You can browse the online catalog, search online databases, use the references to locate good journal articles, and, of course, ask the reference librarian for advice on where to start. Now is a good time to create and start using your research log. In your research log you can keep notes and ideas as you search for a possible topic. As you search, you may find sources that you will want to locate again if you decide to write about this topic. When you find possible sources, note in your research log how to locate the sources again. If you found them by searching the online catalog or databases, note the keywords that helped you identify the source or sources.
