Staples


Born in 1951 in Chester, Pennsylvania, Brent Staples received a bachelor's degree with honors from Widener University in 1973; he received a doctoral degree from the University of Chicago in 1977. He was also a Danforth Fellowship recipient for graduate study. In addition to having been an adjunct professor of psychology from 1977 to 1981, Staples worked as a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times in1982 and 1983. Since 1983, he has been an editorial writer for the New York Times. His literary works include Parallel Time: Growing Up in Black and White, an autobiography, published in 1994; he has also contributed essays to a number of periodicals.
