Sawaquat, Lewis "For My Indian Daughter"

Lewis Sawaquat was born in 1935 and raised in Harbor Springs, Michigan. While in the U.S. Army, he served a tour of duty in Korea and learned to be a surveyor, a profession he followed after leaving the Army. He also attended the Art Institute of Chicago. On Sunday, August 6, l995, he was a guest speaker representing the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa as a Cultural Traditionalist at the 50th Anniversary of Hiroshima-Nagasaki Observance held by the Neahtawanta Center in Traverse City, Michigan.
