Ann Roiphe was born Anne Roth on December 25, 1935, in New York City. She has been a published writer since 1966. Under the name Anne Richardson, she has published the novels Digging Out (1967) and Torch Song (1977). Other novels include Up the Sandbox!, 1970; Long Division, 1972; Lovingkindness, 1987; The Pursuit of Happiness, 1991; If You Knew Me, 1993; and To Rabbit, With Love and Squalor: An American Read, 2000. In addition to essays contributed to periodicals, Roiphe's other published works include: Generation without Memory: A Jewish Journey in Christian America, 1981; A Season for Healing: Reflections on the Holocaust, 1988; Fruitful: A Real Mother in the Modern World, 1996; and 1185 Park Avenue: A Memoir, 1999.
