Objectives

The Islamic faith prohibits the portrayal of the human figure in religious art. The impact of this belief can be easily be recognized, when one considers that Islam is one of the world's three major religions and presently is the fastest growing religion. The dominance of the Islamic faith is seen primarily in the Middle East where it has greatly influenced the art and architecture of that region. Chapter 18 introduces the reader to the art and architecture of Islam in Arabia, Spain and India.
