Clay, Glass, Metal, Wood, and Fiber are generally considered to be crafts--materials used for utilitarian objects. In this chapter the processes used to create objects from these materials are discussed. The role of craft in the world of art in contemporary society is shifting. Objects of utility are being recognized for their unique creativity as well as message.
