Rybczynski, the Martin and Margy Myerson Professor of Urbanism at the University of Pennsylvania, has written in-depth, thoughtful works on urban architecture, housing, and the uses of technology. His books include Taming the Tiger (1983), Looking Around: A Journey Through Architecture (1993), and City Life (1995). This selection is an article he write in 1997 for New Yorker.
