Where Mountain Lion Lay Down with Deer

Leslie Marmon Silko
(b. 1948)

A Native American, Leslie Marmon Silko was brought up in Laguna Pueblo, New Mexico. She has taught at the University of Arizona and also at the University of New Mexico, and she has been honored with a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. The topic in most of her works is the tradition of the Navajo People, which she treats with great love and understanding, as in "Where Mountain Lion Lay Down with Deer," which connects the individual with the past, the land, and Nature.
