To combine sentences using the second sentence-combining option, join two related independent clauses of equal importance with a semicolon to form a compound sentence.

Complete Idea: Romeo and Juliet is set in Italy.
Complete Idea: It tells of two star-crossed lovers.

Compound Sentence:

Instructions:
Insert a semicolon between the two independent clauses.

Example question: The rapids became dangerous Ramona fell off the raft.
Example answer: The rapids became dangerous; Ramona fell off the raft.
