Anna Kamienska
(1920 - 1986)

Anna Kamienska (1920-1986), a Polish poet, translator, critic, essayist, and editor, was the author of numerous collections of original and translated poetry (from Russian and other Slavic languages) as well as of anthologies, books for children, and collections of interpretations of poems. Initially, a poet of peasant themes and moral concerns, she underwent a spiritual metamorphosis in the early 1970s, becoming an important poet of religious experience. A posthumous collection of her poetry is Two Darknesses, translated by Tomasz P. Krzeszowski and Desmond Graham (1994)."Funny" (1973), translated by Mieczyslaw Jastrun, offers a wryly thought-provoking view of the human condition.
