Lesley Hazleton
(1945 - )

Lesley Hazleton was born in England in1945 and emigrated to the United States in 1979. She has worked as a feature writer and reporter and since 1989 has written about cars and driving for The New York Times, Lear’s magazine, Newsday, and, currently, for the Detroit Free Press. Her books include the award-winning Jerusalem, Jerusalem (1986) and Confessions of a Fast Woman (1992), from which the following chapter is drawn. She has also written Everything Women Always Wanted to Know about Cars: But Didn’t Know Who to Ask (1995). Most recently, she has written Driving to Detroit: An Automotive Odyssey (1998).
