Douchan Gersi is the producer of the National Geographic television series called Discovery. He has traveled extensively throughout the Philippines, New Zealand, the Polynesian Islands, the Melanesian Islands, the Sahara, Africa, New Guinea, and Peru. "Initiated into an Iban Tribe of Headhunters," from his book Explorer (1987), tells of the harrowing initiation process he underwent to become a member of the Iban tribe in Borneo. He subsequently wrote Out of Africa with Maroussia Gersi (1989). His latest work is Faces in the Smoke: An Eyewitness Experience of Voodoo (1991).
