Conclusion

Americans expanded across the continent between 1815 and 1850; population pressures, the availability of land, economic opportunities, the restless desire for independence, and the belief in Manifest Destiny provided the catalysts. This westward movement was not peaceful; claims the Native Americans and Mexican government had to the land were rejected. As the Mexican War made clear, the United States was now the dominate power in North America.
