Conclusion

The economy of the United States expanded with surprising speed as transportation was revolutionized, industry grew, and technological innovations changed the workplace. These changes, most evident in the Northeast, also resulted in new reform movements. Believing that human improvement was possible and encouraged by evangelical Protestantism, these reformers addressed moral and institutional problems, the improvement of society, the elimination of slavery, and women’s rights.
