Conclusion

During the presidencies of Jefferson and Madison, the U.S. reflected confidence and strength as it increased in size and won international respect. The reactions to the Panic of 1819 and Missouri’s request for admission revealed deep rooted sectionalism. The Federalist party no longer existed, the Republican party was about to dissolve into regional coalitions.
