Strategies for Interpreting Meaning:...
Objectives

When we want to try to explain why something happens or has happened, we use cause and effect writing. Before you try your hand at cause and effect writing, you need to understand fully the connections between causes and effects. Be sure to show the connections clearly and logically to your reader. You can do this by using a consistent organizational pattern, sticking to the focused topic or thesis, and double-checking the logical connections between causes and effects.

By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:

  • use cause and effect writing to explain the "why" of something
  • understand the clear relationships between causes and effects
  • check the logic of your connections
  • use a consistent pattern of organization
