Chapter 11 on Sikhism covers the sant tradition, Guru Nanak, the succession of Gurus, and the religion's central beliefs and sacred practices. A concluding section discusses contemporary Sikhism.

After reading this chapter, you should:

1. Understand the origins of Sikhism including its relationship with Hinduism and Islam.
2. Know the important contributions of the religion's major gurus.
3. Be familiar with the religion's central beliefs and sacred practices.
4. Recognize figures and terms important to Sikhism such as Guru Nanak, sants, Kabir, Punjab, Adi Granth, Guru Granth Sahib, Sikh army, Singh, Kaur, Khalsa, Udasis, Jap Ji, jaap sahib, kirtan, Sat, Ik Onkar, Shabd, Nam, karma, reincarnation, langar, gurdwara, sangat, and Khalistan.
