Verbs: Consistency and Case
Objectives

Tense tells time. Therefore, tenses should not be shifted unless there is a reason to switch the time. Keeping tenses the same is called consistency. Voice for a verb indicates whether the subject of the sentence is doing the action or whether it is being acted on.

By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:

  • find and correct shifts in tense;
  • distinguish between passive voice and active voice;
  • correct shifts in voice.
