Distribution of Arctic Sea Ice

Satellite surveys have documented changes in the distribution of sea ice in the Arctic Sea. Although the melting of sea ice does not change sea level (Can you explain why?), many scientists feel that changes in ice extent are indicators of climate change. Examine the following image for the Northern Atlantic - Greenland area. Positive numbers indicate increases in sea ice (in units of millions of km2), and negative numbers show losses.
