Objectives
|
After reading, studying, and discussing Chapter 5, you should be able to:
- List and discuss some of Earth's external and internal processes.
- Describe mechanical weathering and the roles that frost wedging, unloading, thermal expansion, and biological activity have in the process.
- Describe chemical weathering and explain how the processes of dissolution, oxidation, hydrolysis, and alterations caused by chemical weathering modify Earth materials.
- List and discuss the factors that control the rate of weathering.
- Define soil and describe the factors that control soil formation.
