 After reading, studying, and discussing Chapter 4, you should be able to:
- Describe how a magma's composition, temperature, and amount of dissolved gases affect its viscosity and influence the nature of volcanic eruptions.
- List the materials extruded during an eruption.
- Discuss the characteristic forms and eruptive patterns of the three general types of volcanoes.
- List and describe several volcanic landforms other than volcanoes that are associated with volcanic activity.
- Explain what is meant by intrusive igneous activity, and list some features that are produced by the process.
- Describe the relationship between plate tectonics and igneous activity.
- Discuss how explosive volcanic eruptions can modify Earth's climate.
