The Topography of Arid Lands
Destinations

In keeping with the theme of Chapter 18, these Web destinations are designed to demonstrate just how exciting the discipline of geography is. These sites exemplify the many concepts presented in The Topography of Arid Lands.

  • Eolian Landforms: This site illustrates eolian (wind) landforms using remotely sensed images, and it provides descriptions of how each landform was created. The explanations are easy to understand, and the images are striking to view. This site is also a part of the Geomorphology from Space project.
  • Desert Research Institute: This site describes the arid lands research the Institute undertakes.
  • Desert Environment: This site provides information about the major desert regions found in the United States. See photographs of each desert and learn more about each. This site's description of "desert" is also quite good.
  • Lost City of Arabia: This site describes the lost city of Ubar in Arabia. Remote sensing helped find the city--to find out how, visit the site!
