  • Discuss the extent of the world ocean.

  • Describe the differences between passive and active continental margins and the features associated with each.

  • Diagram a typical passive continental margin, showing the continental shelf, shelf break, the continental slope, and the continental rise in their proper locations.

  • Discuss submarine canyons, turbidity currents, and turbidites.

  • List, describe, and illustrate the features of a typical deep-ocean basin.

  • Describe the formation of coral reefs and atolls.

  • List and describe the general types of seafloor sediments.
