We have made a concerted effort to search the Web for relevant material, but no matter how hard we try, there will always be more information available than we can possibly examine.

However, the following list contains links to many of the most interesting and informative Web sites related to topics explored in the chapter that we were able to locate. Check them out, but make sure you come back to do more investigating when you're done.


METEOROLOGY (General)

AccuWeather.com
AccuWeather.com is one of the most comprehensive weather sites available. In addition to travel, aviation, and agriculture weather, the site also offers several interesting weather-related streaming video clips.
California Regional Weather Server
Here is an excellent site for satellite images, weather radar, jet stream information, regional weather maps, etc.
Climate Data and Maps
This site contains climate data and maps from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Cloudman
A great source for cloud information and images.
Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies
The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) is a cooperative institute formed through a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

An excellent source for current weather data, including printable maps.
Daily Planet - University of Illinois
The University of Illinois Department of Atmospheric Sciences home page features a variety of weather-related information.
EarthWaves - Our Changing Planet
EarthWaves is a Web site dedicated to the subject of our planet and the many changes encompassing it. You'll find topics here ranging from earthquakes to the ozone layer.
Extreme Science
Extreme Science is a great place for all kinds of science information. The site includes sections on time, weather, space, Earth science, biology, and maps.
Federal Meteorological Handbook (National Weather Service)
Here is the National Weather Service (NWS), Federal Meteorological Handbook No. 1.
Intellicast
This site is the world weather information source.
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL)
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) conducts research in atmospheric chemistry and dynamics over a wide range of temporal and spatial scales.
Meteorology Education and Training (MetEd)
MetEd is a joint Web site operated by the NWSTC, the OSF, and the COMET Program for the advancement of online meteorological education and training. Of most interest are the numerous Web-based training modules and case studies.
Meteorology Guide: The Online Guides
The Online Meteorology Guide is a collection of Web-based instructional modules that use multimedia technology and the dynamic capabilities of the Web.
Midwest Regional Climate Center
The Midwestern Regional Climate Center is a cooperative program between the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) and the Illinois State Water Survey in Champaign, Illinois.

The National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) is the world's largest active archive of weather data.

The mission of the National Weather Association is to support and promote excellence in operational meteorology and related activities. The site offers an extensive list of weather-related links.
National Weather Service (NWS)
Here is perhaps the largest collection of weather data in the world.

Texhoma Storm Chasers
A great "one-stop" source for links to a wide variety of weather and climate sites.
Tropical Atmosphere Ocean Array (TAO)
The Tropical Atmosphere Ocean (TAO) array, a major component of the global climate observing system, consists of approximately 70 ATLAS and current meter moorings in the Tropical Pacific Ocean, telemetering oceanographic and meteorological data in real time via the Argos satellite system.
USA Today
The USA Today's daily weather page.
USA Weather
This site has the latest forecasts, weather maps, and satellite images from Intellicast.
Weather Cams
Live images from weather and tower cameras at many different places around the world. Images vary in quality, and refresh rates range from every few minutes to days.
Weather Channel
Here is the Weather Channel home page for forecasts and other weather-related information.
Weather Data and Imagery, Current (American Meteorological Society)
An excellent source for current surface, satellite, upper air, and forecast information from the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
Weather Data and Imagery (University of Wisconsin-Madison)
This site contains weather data and imagery from the Space Science and Engineering Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Weather Disasters (NOAA)
An excellent source for information on major (billion dollar plus) weather disasters from 1980 to 2001.

Hundreds of weather definitions from "absolute humidity" to "Zulu time."
Weather Information Network (National Weather Service)
Here are local and world weather and related items from the National Weather Service (NWS).
WeatherNet
WeatherNet bills itself as the Internet's premier source of weather information, providing access to thousands of forecasts, images, and the Net's largest collection of weather links.

This site offers information on just about every weather topic you can imagine from USA Today.
World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
The World Meteorological Organization coordinates global scientific activity to allow increasingly prompt and accurate weather information and other services for public, private, and commercial use, including the international airline and shipping industries.

Here is an excellent overview of what temperature is and how we measure it.
Air Resources Laboratory (NOAA)
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Air Resources Laboratory conducts research on processes that relate to air quality, climate, and emergency preparedness, concentrating on the transport, dispersion, transformation, and removal of trace gases and aerosols, and the exchange between the atmosphere and biological and nonbiological surfaces.

The Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC) is the primary global-change data and information analysis center of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Climate data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is an excellent site for interactive climate data.

National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)
The National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) is the world's largest active archive of weather data. The NCDC's mission is to manage the nation's resource of global climatological in-situ and remotely sensed data and information to promote global environmental stewardship; to describe, monitor, and assess the climate; and to support efforts to predict changes in the Earth's environment.
Ozone Concentrations, Atmospheric
This site covers stratospheric ozone concentrations, including maps, for both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center (CPC).
