Welcome to the Website for Principles of Biochemistry, 4th Edition. We have created a series of features designed to increase comprehension of the topics covered in the textbook and to help students prepare better for tests. For each chapter we offer the following features:

Chapter Quiz – Multiple-choice practice quizzes with hints and feedback with instant grading to help you identify areas where you might need to study more. In each quiz, the difficulty level of the questions gradually increases from the first question to the last.

Essay Questions – Thought questions designed to test your deeper understanding of biochemical concepts and processes. Includes many labeled “Clinical” questions. Note: Answers to Essay Questions are not provided.

Animations – Most chapters have a selection of QuickTime movies covering key dynamic processes in biochemistry. (QuickTime installation required for viewing.)

PDB Molecules – Accompanying most pictures of molecules in the textbook are Protein Data Bank (PDB) reference numbers. These PDB files are offered and can be viewed using either the MDL Chime plug-in (download information provided) or with a Molecular Viewer application.

Media Lab – Web-based dynamic investigations that allow you to explore the background on timely issues related to the chapters. Questions are offered which are designed to test your comprehension of the topic.
