Appendix A: Complex Numbers

Summary:

1. Complex numbers can be expressed in rectangular, polar, or exponential forms. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of complex numbers are necessary operations in solving steady-state ac circuits by the phasor method.
2. Sinusoids and complex numbers are related through Euler’s identities.

Appendix C: The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination

Summary:

Becoming licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) is a very important step toward success in your engineering career. In the United States, a PE license is required by all 50 states for engineers whose work may affect life, health, or property, or who offer their services to the public. Thus, a license is an absolute requirement for many types of work. Furthermore, licensed engineers have more opportunities and earn higher salaries (from 15 percent to 25 percent) than other engineers.

Appendix D: Computer-Aided Circuit Analysis

Summary:

In this appendix, we show how to use OrCAD 10.5, a suite of programs, which includes PSpice, by Cadence Design Systems, to analyze most of the types of circuits discussed in this book. This suite of programs is a very sophisticated and powerful tool for electronic-circuit designers. Using OrCAD 10.5, you can check your answers to many of the problems in this book.

Appendix E: Software Installation

Summary:

Two CD-ROMs are included with this book. One contains the Student Edition of LabVIEW 8, and the other contains OrCAD 10.5 Demo, a suite of computeraided circuit-analysis and design programs. The OrCAD CD also contains selected answers and key equations for the book.
