Professional societies provide a forum in which scientists who ask similar questions can share their research and ideas. Most researchers in the life sciences attend annual society meetings, often presenting papers or giving talks on aspects of their research. For those who don’t give a paper, society conferences offer the opportunity to learn about other research in the field, and discuss aspects of ones own research with scientists who may provide a fresh point of view. Professional societies also often publish their own journal or conference proceedings. These links lead to several of the most well know scientific and biological societies.
