Review section 8.1, The Nature of Quantitative Traits.

Note that the authors state that quantitative triats results from the interaction between genotype and environment. Strictly speaking, this is true of all traits, as the expression of every gene depends upon, at a minimum, the chemical environment of the cell in which the gene is transcribed and translated. However, as you will see as you explore the chapter further, traits may vary in the extent to which variation in the trait among individuals is a function of variation in their underlying genes vs. variation in the environment.
