|
Ecologists describe the growth of populations using models, which can be very simple or very complicated equations or sets of equations. In this activity, youll examine two types of models. In one, called density-independent growth, the growth rate of a population does not change as the population density increases. In the other, called density-dependent growth, as the population density increases and individuals begin to compete for resources, the population growth rate slows. Both models are important in understanding the dynamics of populations in nature.
