![]() Chapter 12: ActivitiesActivity 12.1 DNA Synthesis |
|
Before a cell divides, it replicates its DNA. Although this process of DNA synthesis is similar in all cells, the example here uses the well-studied bacterium, E. coli. Several enzymes play roles in DNA synthesis, including those that unwind the double helix, initiate new strands of DNA, elongate the new strands, and fill in any gaps that remain at the end of the process. In this activity, youll examine these enzymes, as well as the main synthesis reaction, in which a new nucleotide is added to the end of an elongating strand.
