![]() Chapter 51: ActivitiesActivity 51.1 The Global Carbon Cycle |
|
The global carbon cycle is a description of how carbonin the form of both organic and inorganic moleculesmoves between the atmosphere and the ocean, rocks, and biota. The carbon cycle has been extensively studied in recent years because human activities such as the burning of fossil fuel have released large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. This accumulation of carbon in the atmosphere is expected to lead to a rise in the Earths temperature, because carbon in the atmosphere has the ability to trap heat.
