Activity 48.2 Human Population Growth and Regulation

CDA48_2.jpg The human population has increased from about 5 million people 10,000 years ago to more than 6 billion people today. The rate at which this population grows depends on the birthrate and death rate. To slow the population explosion, the international community is trying to educate the populace to have fewer offspring per individual. In this activity you’ll explore the effect of reducing these numbers, as well as the effect of increasing the generation time—in other words, increasing the age of onset of childbearing—on the population’s growth rate.
