![]() Chapter 21: ActivitiesActivity 21.1 Natural Selection for Antibiotic Resistance |
|
In this activity, youll examine the results of natural selection in a population of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterial species that causes tuberculosis. The evolution of drug resistance in microorganisms, such as M. tuberculosis, that cause human diseases is of particular concern to biologists. Youll also explore the mechanism of natural selection by examining an antibiotic-resistant trait in a population of these bacteria, in particular focusing on how this case study relates to Darwin's four postulates of natural selection.
