  2. understand the basic properties of periodic waves.
  3. calculate the approximate speeds of a sound wave in air, a sound wave along a rod, and a shear wave in a solid.
  4. be able to calculate the power delivered by waves.
  5. be able to determine the allowed wavelengths and frequencies of standing waves on strings and in pipes.
  6. be able to calculate the loudness of a sound on the decibel scale.
