Objectives
After studying this chapter, you should
  1. know the difference between distance and displacement.
  2. know the difference between speed and velocity.
  3. know the difference between velocity and acceleration.
  4. be able to calculate displacements, velocities, and accelerations using the equations of one-dimensional motion.
  5. be able to interpret x-versus-t and v-versus-t plots for motion with both constant velocity and constant acceleration.
  6. be able to describe the motion of freely falling objects.
