After reading Chapter 5, you should be able to:
- Define the concepts of temperature, kinetic energy, sensible heat,
and distinguish among Kelvin, Celsius, and Fahrenheit scales and
how they are measured.
- List and review the principal controls and influences that produce global temperature patterns.
- Review the factors that produce different marine effects and continental effects as they influence temperatures, and utilize several
pairs of stations to illustrate these differences.
- Interpret the pattern of Earth's temperatures from their portrayal on January and July temperature maps and on a map of annual
temperature ranges.
- Contrast wind chill and heat index, and determine human response to these apparent temperature effects.
