As a follow-up to the previous question, some have suggested the development of coal and other mineral deposits that are known to exist in Antarctica. Currently, the international Antarctic Treaty (first signed in 1959, and amended in 1972, 1982, and 1991) prohibits such activity. How might the dust and particulate outputs of such activity impact this environment? Could there be changes in albedo to this white surface? How would this affect reflection? Absorption?

The occurrence of global warming and the greenhouse effect is supported by most scientists. However, there are some who are skeptical that global warming is related to human activity, or that climate change is occurring at all. Go to the BBC Climate Change site, and scroll to the section on the global warming debate. Read some of the information presented at the various links. What do you think of the argument against global warming? Does it seem scientifically reasonable?

Write an essay summarizing the results of your research and your opinion of this side of the global warming debate.
