|
Chapter 3 makes the student aware that conveying information to an audience through text alone has its limitations, and, therefore, he or she must supplement or replace entirely the text portion of communication with graphics and visuals to convey a complete palette of information in a manner that is quickly and easily understood. What can you learn from this chapter?
From Chapter 3, you will: - Understand the purpose and function of tables, bar charts, line graphs, pie charts, and flow charts in writing.
- Prepare organizational charts, drawings, maps, photographs, text art, clip art, and icons in a written document.
- Name and practice the conventions of tables and figures, including design, incorporation, placement, titling, numbering, and referencing.
- Know the difference between formal and informal tables and become acquainted with simple, complex, and pictorial flow charts.
- Understand more clearly the impact of technology in communications, as many of the tools change to computers, software, scanners, and laser and inkjet printers.
