Objectives

After reading the chapter and completing the learning activities, you should be able to:
  • Identify elements of story structure: plot, characters, setting, point of view, and theme.
  • Develop lessons that provide opportunities for children to read and write stories.
  • Develop lessons that provide opportunities for children to use the comprehension processes: microprocessing, integrative processing, macroprocessing, elaborative processing, and metacognitive processing.
  • Develop learning opportunities for children to read and write stories through literature focus units, literature circles, reading and writing workshop, and theme cycles.
