Exercises

The first set of exercises will help you explore your current feelings and attitudes and thus better understand yourself. Begin with Exercise 1.1, First Impressions. This will help you take stock of where you are currently. Exercise 1.2 is a review of where your life focus has been. You will learn more about how personality and interests relate to career planning in Chapter 4. For now, Exercise 1.3 asks you to begin thinking about your interests, and Exercise 1.4 asks you to identify your personal strengths. (Later when you are reading about the personality requirements of different careers, you can use this list as another piece to complete the “personality puzzle.”) Exercise 1.5 encourages you to identify job preferences by ranking occupations according to how you perceive their status.
