Web site accessibility check
– Use the Bobby web accessibility checker to evaluate the accessibility of a web site. Bobby checks whether web sites are accessible to people with disabilities. It uses two standards, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (
http://www.w3.org/TR/WAI-WEBCONTENT/
), and the U.S. Section 508 Guidelines developed by the U.S. government (
http://www.section508.gov/
). Visit the Bobby site at
http://bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/index.jsp
. Enter the address of a web site into the URL text box, and use the SUBMIT button to begin the check of the web site. Review the results of the accessibility check.

TrackStar
– At TrackStar, teachers create online lessons and activities for students by assembling web addresses, notes, and instructions, and then saving them for students to use. Visit the TrackStar website at

. View a Track after browsing or searching for a topic or grade level. Use the Track as if you were a student. To keep a copy of the web sites used in the Track, email it to yourself using the "Email this Track" link.

Wheelchair simulator
– Wheelchair Net is a virtual reality simulator designed to help users understand how to operate an electric wheelchair. The program and information are located at

. Download and install the program. Run the program and use the computer controls to experience the operation of a wheelchair.

. Screen reader Simulation – Experience a screen reader and learn how inaccessible content affects screen reader users. Low-vision Simulation – View Web content through several types of vision disabilities. Learn how to design content to best work with screen enlarging software. Distractability Simulation – Experience the frustrations similar to what someone with a cognitive disability may experience on the Web. What understanding do you now have of the experience of a person with a disability? Explain how technology increases a user's abilities.
