Clifford Stoll (1999) says, "You certainly can get an excellent education without a computer" (p. 32), and "When every student . . . is pressed to become a computer maven, and only the incompetent are allowed to become plumbers, neither our programs nor our pipes will hold water" (p. 123). After reading Chapter 1, how would you respond to this position?

In his article on "cybercheating," Gardiner (2001) says,"...I understand that the temptation of exchanging hours of research and writing for a few minutes of searching seems like a good deal as the deadline looms. ...I wondered how I could ever overcome the power of the Internet and the lure of cheating" (p. 174).
